Key Syllabus for the Life in the UK Test

The Life in the UK Test is a computer-based exam covering the history, culture, lives of an everyday citizen, and everything under the United Kingdom’s sun. It has 24 questions that need to be answered on 45 minutes or less.

For you to prepare for this test, you must first have the following prerequisites: Basic English knowledge, and basic computer skills. If you have these two skills, you are required, obviously, to study. The best resource is the official handbook of the Life in the UK Test, which is “Life in the UK: A Journey to Citizenship.”

The handbook covers topics regarding the United Kingdom. Chapter 1 contains a brief talk on the history of the United Kingdom. It talks about how the United Kingdom is formed, what happened to the country during the previous World Wars and the difference between the UK’s past and present.

Chapter 2 discusses on how United Kingdom was populated, and explains the ever-changing society of the UK. This chapter also explains why there are many immigrants today and the role of women and children on this changing society.

On Chapter 3, the handbook discusses about the population, and the country’s geography. We can also learn from this chapter about the different religions and customs and traditions that each country of the UK is celebrating.

The difference between the two governments, the Monarchy and the Parliamentary, are highlighted in Chapter 4. This chapter also covers the different sections of each government, and the Unions founded on the European soil.

Chapter 5 is more of a guideline, as it discusses the everyday challenges that a British citizen faces. This chapter must be read by both applicants and just tourists who don’t wish to take the Life in the UK Test, as this guides, and also helps the tourists by giving them an idea what a British citizen does.

Chapter 6 is about employment, work, and benefits. It covers what you can do to look for a job, and the benefits you will receive while looking for a job, while working, and while you are currently unemployed.

The applicant must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of these topics for him or her to pass the test.
